Meet the Leander Team Behind Mainspring Garage Door Co.
We’re the crew that shows up when your garage door won’t budge at 6 a.m. or your opener quits before a storm hits Leander. Every person on this page lives here or drives here daily, and every one of us works under the same rule Carl wrote down in 1984: do it right, stand behind it, and don’t make the homeowner ask twice. No departments, no runaround. Just people who know doors and treat your home like their own.
Our People
Carl Dutton, Owner
I started Mainspring in 1984, back when Leander was a dot on FM 2243 and most folks still had manual doors. I’m a journeyman technician by trade, not a desk guy, and I still ride along on jobs when we’re stacked up or something unusual comes in. The company name comes from the mainspring, the coil that carries the full weight of a door. I picked it because that one part does the hardest work and nobody notices it until it breaks. That’s the standard I hold us to. I sign off on every 90-Day Done Right Promise myself, and if we miss, I hear about it directly. My cell number’s on the invoice. It always has been.
Mike R., Lead Technician
Mike’s been with us fourteen years and handles the calls nobody else wants: torsion spring conversions on old Wayne Dalton systems, custom cable routing for low-headroom garages in the older blocks off Bagdad Road, and the 10 p.m. emergency jobs when a spring lets go and the car’s trapped. He’s factory-certified on LiftMaster, Genie, and Chamberlain openers, and he keeps a handwritten log of every oddball setup he’s seen in Cedar Park and Leander so the next tech doesn’t start from zero. Off the clock, he rebuilds vintage motorcycles in a shed behind his house in Liberty Hill. He says the patience transfers.
Dana S., Senior Installer
Dana runs our new-door and replacement jobs from Crystal Falls to the Travisso developments and anywhere else in Leander where someone’s upgrading curb appeal or replacing a wind-damaged panel. She’s been installing Clopay, Amarr, and Raynor systems for eleven years, and she’s particular about header framing and side-room clearances in ways that save homeowners from callbacks two seasons later. Dana’s the one who measures twice, points out rot you didn’t notice, and won’t let a crew leave until the door runs quiet and the photo eyes are dialed in exactly level. She keeps a rescue pit bull named Biscuit who rides shotgun on weekend supply runs.
Terrence W., Service Coordinator
Terrence answers the phones. That’s not a small thing here. When you call (737) 306-1391 at 2 a.m. on a Sunday because your door’s hanging crooked and a storm’s rolling in from the Hill Country, Terrence is the live voice that picks up. He’s been with Mainspring eight years, knows every technician’s location in real time, and can talk a homeowner through safely disengaging an opener or securing a door until we arrive. He schedules around Leander ISD half-days and rush-hour choke points on 183A because he lives here too and knows the timing matters. He’s also the one who follows up after every job to make sure the Promise got delivered.
Jesse K., Apprentice Technician
Jesse joined us two years ago after four years as a maintenance tech at a Cedar Park apartment complex. He’s working through his journeyman hours under Mike’s supervision and has already developed a specialty in opener logic-board diagnostics, the kind of work that saves homeowners from replacing a whole unit when a $40 part and some soldering will do. Jesse grew up in Leander, graduated from Rouse High School, and knows which neighborhoods built in the 2005-2010 boom are hitting their first round of spring replacements right about now. He’s quiet, thorough, and asks more questions than he answers, which is exactly what you want in someone learning to work under tension.
One Standard, Every Job
Every person on this crew, from Carl to Jesse, works under the K.E.Y.S. code we train to: Krafted right, Every time, Your home first, Standing behind it. That means background checks and uniforms on every call, no exceptions. It means trucks stocked with springs, cables, and openers so most Leander jobs finish in one visit. It means the flat price is stated before any work starts, and the 90-Day Done Right Promise is written on every invoice, not implied. We’ve been doing it this way since 1984, across thirteen cities in the Austin metro, and we don’t vary the recipe because a neighborhood changes or a trend comes along. When we say we’ll be there when we say, we mean it. When we say no surprises on the bill, we mean that too.
